London, UK quartet Dry the River — whose early work drew comparisons to
Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes and others in the folk-rock oeuvre — was
formed as a solo vehicle for Norwegian born singer/songwriter Peter
Liddle, who described the band’s sound as “folky gospel music played by a
post-punk band.” Liddle, who draws much of his lyrical inspiration from
medicine and anthropology, the two subjects that were the focus of his
time at University, eventually recruited Matt Taylor (guitar), Scott
Miller (bass) and Jon Warren (drums) to round out the project, and landed
a record deal with Transgressive in 2009. Well-reviewed performances at
Glastonbury and South by Southwest garnered additional industry attention,
and by the end of 2011, the group had cut their debut EP with producer Peter Katis (The National). The band’s first full-length studio outing “Shallow
Bed” arrived the following year, and appearances at SXSW and Lollapalooza
plus critical acclaim cemented interest among US indie-rock enthusiasts.

Their second album “Alarms In The Heart”, released on August 25th, is
bold, expansive, confident and cohesive – an undeniable step up in both
diversity and volume from their debut. Produced by Charlie Hugall
(Florence and The Machine, Ed Sheeran), Paul Savage (Mogwai, Franz
Ferdinand) and Peter Miles (We Are The Ocean, Futures, The King Blues)
with arrangements and strings from Valgeir Sigurðsson (Sigur Rós, Björk),
the album also features the guest vocal of The Delgados’ Emma Pollock on
“Roman Candle.” The band will embark on a UK headline tour in October as
well as North American dates following a number of festival shows over the
summer, including appearances at Glastonbury and the Main Stage at Reading
and Leeds.
